Name: Janine "Jane" Shepard
Aliases: Staff Commander Janine Rylie Shepard, Commander, Shepard, Spectre, Captain Shepard vas Normandy, Alison Gunn (cover identity), “Shep” (Kasumi’s nickname for Shepard), Battlemaster Shepard (title used for Shepard by Grunt, and thus presumably the rest of Clan Urdnot except Wrex), Lola or Loco (used by James Vega), Shepard-Commander (used by Legion), “Queen of the Girl Scouts” (nickname from Jack), Jane (For LI or close friends). Also known as the Savior of the Galaxy, Survivor of Akuze, First human Spectre, Destroyer of the Reapers.
Age: 34
Species/Race: Human
Home Universe: Mass Effect
Dialogue Color: ca4343
PERSONAL
I fight for freedom. Mine, and everyone's. I fight for the right to choose our own fate. And if I die, I'll die knowing that I did everything I could to stop you. And I'll die free.
===========
Image: Armored, Casual, Casual Hoodie
Appearance: 5'8, 140 lbs without armor. Fiery red hair, green eyes, freckles scattered across her nose and cheeks. Skin complexion is average but marred with various battle scars, the most notable one being across her right eyebrow and a diagonal one on the left cheek. At times her scars may appear to glow red under her skin when enraged or stressed. Her features are delicate that nevertheless show strength in every expression, with a lean, athletic build one expects of a soldier. Her armor is gunmetal/charcoal grey with a red and white stripe along one arm, an N7 patch on the breastplate, and red led's.
When she's not in her armor, most of her clothing is gender neutral or masculine in appearance, and she's always wearing her omni-tool (appears as a black band over the wrist if uncovered) and her dog tags. Shepard can also throw a hoodie over her uniform and tends to keep the hood up and a pair of shades on for anonymity. She doesn't wear much make up, as she isn't shy abut hiding her scars, but knows how to use it to cover up bruises and small wounds.
Personality: A fighter by nature and inclination, Shepard is confident, stubborn, strong-willed, bold and sarcastic with a side of street smarts. She can be friendly, even diplomatic most of the time but she also has something of a temper, only shows respect to others when its due and doesn't take anybody's sh * t. She makes the tough calls when other people can’t and can be pragmatic, snarky to whoever deserves it, will call people out on their BS and isn't afraid to fight dirty. She also doesn't take kindly to people that might want to play coy with a Spectre or try to obstruct her more urgent work. It just pisses her off and, while it may not mean much anymore here in Eden, she'll pull the Spectre rank when she has to.
Carrying herself with the self-assurance of a seasoned warrior used to command, she's honest (and can be so to the point of being very... blunt), isn't afraid to stand for what she believes, seeks to protect others, and she'll speak out for what she perceives as injustice. She knows how the world works and despite her growing up on the streets she has a strong sense of right and wrong (with a distaste for politicians, corporations, ect) that try to throw little guys under the bus and people that prey on the marginilized. Under the rough edges is a pillar of kindness, strength and compassion.
She relaxes a bit around those she knows and is willing to let her hair down around them. Even if she does not always know exactly how to express it, she has a deep affection for her friends that carries through in her actions and is fiercely protective of those she cares for. When confronting an enemy she can come off as cold and ruthless, holding no sympathy for irredeemably evil people. But above all else, Shepard is ruthlessly determined. Regardless of the perils of imminent death and all personal endangerment, Shepard will not quit. Shepard never quits and she does not like it when ANYTHING gets in her way if she wants to accomplish something.
Long story short: She's a Paragade, about 52% Paragon, 48% Renegade.

Backstory: Shepard was born on April 11, 2154 in Chicago. When Shepard was six her mother and father, both no-nonsense Alliance Marines, passed away in a horrific accident. Having nowhere else to go Shepard left the group home she was at age 11 along with a couple of other kids, dropped out of school and joined the Tenth Street Reds. Her time in the Reds had taught her some useful skill but its not something she's exactly proud of. By age 16 her friend/mentor/kinda-father-figure/kinda-brother-figure was killed in a drug raid. In his dying moments he made her promise to leave the Reds and find something better. With his thoughts in mind she enlisted into the Systems Alliance Navy as soon as she hit 18. She then rose quickly through the ranks to graduate from the N7 Special Forces program.

--Revival & The Collectors--
--Bahak--
--Reapers Arrive--
Six months after the threat of the Collector's had been stopped, the Reapers finally arrive and invade the galaxy. Shepard's trial is forgotten and she gathers her team together again, searching for the key that could end the Reapers for good, solving various problems along the way and earning allies (and even learning how the Reapers were created!). Eventually the final battle is fought. Upon activating the Crucible to destroy the Reapers, Shepard is knocked unconscious and pulled into Eden, alive but unable to see the final result of her efforts.
FIGHTING
I'll relinquish one bullet. Where do you want it?

Powers / Abilities:
Weapons:
Other Items:
Weaknesses:
+ All of her firearms have a set amount of shots before she has to load in a new thermal clip. If there's no clip but she keeps firing, internal heat buildup will damage the gun... and her hands eventually.
+ Her shields don't work on extreme temperatures, toxins or radiation. Melee attacks like a knife stab or a punch aren't deflected if they don't move fast enough to trigger the shields, nor will they work if someone in close enough to shoot at point blank range. Can also be whittled down with repetitive fire, though they automatically recharge should she stay in cover for a couple of seconds.
+ She relies heavily on playing each situation by ear.
+ A realist, which can make her seem cynical, pessimistic or negative.
+ Her high-risk high-reward system in combat can leave her vulnerable.
+ While being a jack of many trades, Shepard severely lacks when it comes to hacking, engineering, decryption and the like. She can do basic tasks, but asking her to hack a geth goes over her head.
+ Her biotics and other upgrades mean she has to eat a lot more than the average person.
+ Has never been seen crying, not allowing herself to mourn her personal losses properly. Can have flashbacks but denies ptsd.
+ Despite her long list of impressive skills and athletic ability, in no situation seen thus far (except one) can she avoid looking like a complete jackass when attempting to "dance."
+ Being around guys for so long caused her to adopt masculine body language, movements, ect. Her body language remains direct, assertive and masculine. She doesn't know much about being feminine, like walking in heels, applying make up, ect.
OTHER
We fight or we die! That's the plan!
============
Canon Point: Post Destroy Ending, high EMS.
Other Information:
In Mass Effect 1, she spared Fist, spared Shiala and the colonists, helped Parasini, encouraged Garrus to be paragon, helped Tali's pilgrimage, spared Rana, helped Chloe, answered Khalisa's interview questions diplomatically, convinced Conrad to stay home, saved the Rachni Queen, didn't shoot Wrex, aved Kaiden (sacrificed Ashley) and saved Kirrahe, saved the hostages and left Balak for dead, saved the Council, and appointed Anderson.
In Mass Effect 2 accepted Spectre reinstatement, she saved Maelon's data, saved Kal'Reegar, cleared Tali's name (renegade option), encouraged Kasumi to keep the greybox, beat the Shadow Broker, chose Samara, saved David, destroyed the Heretics, saved the ENTIRE crew, destroyed the Collector base (F**k you Cerberus), and pushed a guy out of a window in frustration.
In Mass Effect 3 she saved the Rachni Queen again, cured the genophage with Wrex and Mordin, saved Omega with Aria, brokered peace between the Quarian and the Geth, had a BADASS PARTY after offering mercy to her clone, chose Destroy.
Loyalty Missions: Saved Sidonis, Kasumi keeps the greybox, saved the workers and charmed Zaeed, stopped Samara, helped Jacob, had Thane stop Kolyat, destroyed heretic station, convinced Jack to spare Aresh, helped save Oriana with Miranda, helped Grunt, got Legion and Tali to get along, got Jack and Miranda to get along, saved Maelon's data, convinced Javik not to touch the memory shard.
+ Brought Tali and Garrus in the final mission.
+ Knows about the Andromeda Initiative, but not a whole lot. Discovered some datapads while raiding TIM's quarters that detailed a 'Project SALVATION', the plan to travel to Andromeda but the data showed no evidence that TIM was personally talking to Alec - possible that there was another 'Head' of Cerberus that took charge. She's also somewhat familiar with Alec's name but doesn't know he's involved in the Initiative directly.
+ Starbrat was a hallucination brought on by indoctrination attempt.
+ Player is Shakarian (ShepardxGarrus) trash but will also consider Nyreen/Shepard, Thane/Shepard, Tali/Shepard, Vetra/Shepard, Nihlus/Shepard, Jaal/Shepard or Tiran/Shepard.

--Akuze--
In 2177 the pioneering human colony called Akuze went dark. Shepard and her Alliance Marine team were sent to investigate, but found only the intact settlement and no survivors. When her unit camped out for the night thresher maws attacked the campsite. Trapped in an extreme survival situation, Shepard had to overcome physical torments and psychological stresses that would have broken most people as almost her entire unit was slaughtered. In the end, she was the only one that made it out to the landing zone alive... or so she thought. Turns out that the terrorist group Cerberus had caused the Akuze tragedy.
--Saren--
Assigned to the SSV Normandy in 2183 as Executive Officer, a routine mission to recover a Prothean beacon on Eden Prime went awry after geth forces, led by the rouge turian Spectre named Saren Arterius, attacked. Learning that Saren sought a way to bring back the Reapers, an ancient machine race believed to be behind the Protheans' demise, Shepard becomes the first human Spectre and is given command of the Normandy with orders to hunt down Saren. Shepard and crew manage to destroy a Reaper (and prove their existence to the rest of the galaxy) and bring down Saren, though many lives were lost.
--Revival & The Collectors--
A few months after Saren's defeat, Shepard and crew were attacked by an unknown vessel. Shepard was flung out of the destroyed ship while rescuing her pilot and suffocated to death in the depths of space. Two years later Shepard awakes to find out her body was recovered and rebuilt by the pro-human terrorist group Cerberus. The leader of the group Jack Harper (The Illusive Man) asked for her help to find out why human colonies were being abducted. She led a suicide mission with her team, blowing the culprits behind the kidnappings, a species called the Collectors that were indoctrinated by the Reapers, to hell. All of her crew survived the ordeal.
--Bahak--
Later, in order to delay the incoming Reaper invasion, Shepard sacrifices the Bahak system by causing its mass relay to explode via hurling an asteroid at it. 300 thousand batarians (and some not) living on Aratoht were obliterated in the blast. Knowing the batarians will be out for her blood, even though evidence against her is shoddy at best Shepard allows herself to be placed under arrest for Bahak and for working with Cerberus.

Powers / Abilities:
Her extraordinary leadership, charisma, reflexes, gunfighting prowess, acumen and N7 military training remain an unmatched combination. Resourceful, tenacious, combat trained and tested, Shepard has an excellent level of fitness and is extremely intelligent. She has political tact (as much as she hates politics), and can come up with creative solutions to many seemingly unsolvable problems, both through good strategic thinking and on the fly. Her military training included basic first aid, hand-to-hand combat experience and martial arts training, first contact protocols, ect. Her many skills include marksmanship, hand to hand combat, technology and a few other bits and bobs. It's best to also assume that she's practically always armed.
From the time she joined the Alliance up until her death, Shepard was a normal human soldier. During the Lazarus Project she was granted with a reinforced skeletal structure (to the point where she can literally headbutt a krogan without flinching and go toe to toe with a yahg in a fist fight), enhanced musculature (allowing her to lift four times her body weight and makes her heavier than she looks), cybernetic implants that aid in health regeneration, durability and other things, an above average tolerance for pain and an immunity to most drugs and toxins that would easily kill a normal human (and a high tolerance for others). and hidden eezo nodules in her nervous system were discovered during initial recovery procedures were cultivated. Through training, Shepard's biotics now work in tandem with her abilities as a soldier, though she still needs training to perform skills that require... finesse. Her biotics allow her to evade attacks and jump to higher ground, and can use these skills:
Charge - Shepard augments her speed and strength, and charges across the battlefield towards a target or to evade. Should she connect with the opponent it can send them flying backwards regardless of weight. Using this move also lets Shepard phase through solid objects en route to the target. Charge requires a target and a clear line of sight to function, so she can't phase through solid walls or anything. Range of 40 meters. Cooldown of 2 posts. See it in action.
Nova - Channels energy into a point-blank, high-damage explosion around Shepard. The Nova itself is a close range shock wave power. She usually follows up a Charge with this. 1 post cooldown. See it in action.
Pull & Throw - Creates a field of energy around an opponent or object that alters its mass, which allows her to pull things in to the air, towards her to use as a living shield or even as a weapon to beat up others, and can hurl them away. No cooldown. See pull in action. See throw in action. See it in action.
Lance - A very recently discovered ability that requires concentration in order to be used. Shepard hurls a shaft of biotic energy at an enemy. 1 post cooldown. youtu.be/COltde0OCAg?t=5m44s
Shockwave - This power sends out a series of explosive biotic impacts, phasing through obstacles in its path with a wide radius. It can be unleashed along the ground to launch things and even people in to the air, or used against airborne targets. Maximum of 12 shockwaves. 4 post cooldown. See it in action.

Weapons:
All firearms are collapsible. All of her firearms are also fitted with a custom-made thermal clips management system. When the first thermal clip is filled Shepard can slap the paired clips with her right hand, pushing the first out of alignment via a sliding rail and sliding the second in position, enabling her to resume fire within a fraction of a second. This disconnecting/reconnecting rail is purely mechanical, and made of an hardened steel alloy.

M-11 Suppressor: Pistol. An infiltration weapon used in close-quarters situations where silence is key (and the presence of weapons is generally frowned upon). The Suppressor features a built-in integral sound moderator that reduces noise and muzzle flash. Minor wear and tear but still works fine. 12 shots per clip.
M-3 Predator: Pistol. Reliable, accurate sidearm that is valued as powerful, deadly, and relatively inexpensive. Usually carried on her person. Minor damage but works fine. 22 shots per clip.
M-
27 Scimitar: Elite military shotgun, very effective at short range but ineffective at long range. Usually uncarried except when events require it. Requires repairs to be operational. 8 shots per clip.
M-8 Avenger: A common, versatile, military-grade assault rifle kept on her person while on guard duty. Accurate when fired in short bursts, and deadly when fired on full auto. Has a reputation for being tough, reliable, easy to use, and easy to upgrade. Requires repairs to be operational. 40 shots per clip.
M-29 Incisor: Sniper rifle designed to overload electronics and electronic defenses. Capable of firing three shots with one pull of the trigger, the Incisor's burst is so fast that all three rounds are guaranteed to be in the target (or your money back!) by the time the barrel has moved a millimeter. As an added benefit, the noise of the burst is comparable to a single rifle shot in duration, making it no easier to locate the sniper by sound. Requires heavy repairs to be operational. 15 shots per clip.
- Omni-Tool: A handheld computer system that appears as a hologram on her right arm when active, appearing as a black band around her wrist when inactive. Has many functions including but not limited to multi-purpose scanning, electronic integration, a camera, a flashlight, administering first aid to herself or others the tool is synced with, programming and hacking capabilities, video, audio and holographic communication, gaming capabilities, manufacturing small objects (such as omni-gel) in real time and the ability to generate an 'Omni-Blade' on the end. The transparent, nearly diamond-hard blade is created and suspended in a mass effect field safely away from the user's skin. Warning lights illuminate the field so the searing-hot blade only burns what it is intended to: the opponent.
- Combat Knife: Tucked somewhere within easy reach when she can't use her 'tool. 5'12 blade length, overall length 10-1/2" with a paracord wrapped blade. Partially serrated blade and double-edged.

Other Items:
- Armor: Harder than steel yet not and light as leather, Shepard's armor is composed of greaves, gauntlets, vambraces, shoulderguards, a backplate, a skinsuit and a chestplate with the N7 insignia; all of it designed to fit her like a glove. It allows her to survive in environments like outer space, has a kinetic barrier generator and an onboard computer that can give readouts on the environment, liaise with terminals or other electronics to download data, and check local wildlife against a downloaded xenobiology database. Also possesses magnetic boots and magnetic slots for her firearms in their collapsed states. Should an energy weapon gets past her shields, the armor's plates boil away or ablate rather than burning the wearer. Heavily damaged and requires repairs.
- Helmet: Made out of the same material as her armor. Has a communication, navigation and battlefield awareness/analysis suite and a breather comes around the helmet's mouthpiece and hardseals itself to protect Shepard from hazardous environmental conditions at the press of a button (or omnitool command). Heavily damaged and requires repairs.
- 20 extra Thermal Clips: An item that stores the internal heat of the weapon inside it. Instead of risking damaging an overheated weapon (or their hands) from internal heat buildup or losing their life due to the weapon being unable to fire as it cools, Shepard simply switches clips when one expires and swap thermal clips in under a second. However, unless she finds a way to make more clips or fix the ones she has manually, she can't reuse spent clips. Instead she collects spent clips and lets them cool before storing them in a box for later.
- Spare Ammo Block: Shepard's guns don't really need a constant supply of ammunition. Instead there is a small, internal, solid block of metal and a projectile shaver inside her guns that can generate thousands of rounds of ammunition. If it gets low all she has to do is take the gun apart and replace the block with another one of a similar size and shape.
- 3x Medi-gel: All purpose salve that numbs and instantly seals injuries from liquids, contaminants and gases and removable via ultrasound... as it sticks tight to flesh and would be painful to remove otherwise. An all-purpose medicinal salve combining an anaesthetic and clotting agent. Armor has automatic self-healing system managed by the armor suit's microframe computers uses small quantities of it when required.
- Weapon Mods: Pistol Cranial Trauma System, Pistol Melee Stunner, Sniper Rifle Concentration Mod, Assault Rifle Extended Barrel.
- Ammunition converter: an item that can be installed into her firearms that uses its software to cover the slug in a type of solution before firing with the flick of her thumb.
Incendiary converter: coats the slugs in a thermite paste which clings to, and burns through, nearly any known substance (and it can cause explosions if fired into a source, like a gas tank).
Cryo converter collapses the slugs into small Bose-Einstein condensate - a mass of super-cooled subatomic particles - capable of snap-freezing impacted objects. which can freeze whatever it strikes and makes certain armors easier to penetrate.
- I.D Tags: One has her name, ranks as a Commander and Spectre, military i.d (service no. 5923-AC-2826) and the words 'No Surrender' carved on to it. The other has the Alliance symbol.
- L5x Biotic Amp: A surgically installed electronic brain implant that allows Shepard (and other biotics) to use their biotic powers more effectively than those without and improve specific disciplines or talents. There is an interface port at the base of her skull for convenient access. Once the implant is installed, it can only be replaced or altered through extremely dangerous brain surgery.

We fight or we die! That's the plan!
============
